FAQ's

Is the security system easy to use?

Yes,it is. After the security system has been installed, you and your family or company employees will be trained on how to use the system and all the features built in the system. We will also provide you with a user manual. If you still need help please call High-Tech Electronics at 416-410-4746.

What happens when the alarm system goes off accidentally, what am I supposed to do and will the Monitoring Station contact me?

When the alarm system goes off the siren will sound on the premises and the Monitoring Station will get a signal from your alarm panel that the alarm has gone off. If you are on the premises, switch off the alarm with your 4 digit code (you do not need to call the Monitoring station). If you cannot disarm the system, wait 10 seconds and enter your code again. The panel will send another signal to the Monitoring station that the panel has been disarmed. In the event the Monitoring Station calls you, please give them your security ID provided to you.

If the alarm goes off when nobody is on the premises, the Monitoring Station will first call the premises and if there is no answer the operator will initiate the customer's dispatch procedure (dispatch of Police or Guards) to your premises. After that the Monitoring Station will call the key holders on the list provided by the customer.

Note: In the event of an alarm, your phone line will be busy for a few seconds as the alarm panel is sending the signals to the monitoring station.

Can I use the alarm system if I have pets?

Yes you can. Please let us know before we install your system so that we install a special motion detector and position the detector correctly.

What happens in the event of a power failure in our area?

In the event of a power failure, the backup battery housed in the control panel will take over for a number of hours and keep your system working. When the power returns the back up battery will get re-charged to its full capacity. If the battery runs low the monitoring station will get a low battery signal from your panel and they will inform you of the same.

How long will it take to install my security system or to take over my existing alarm system?

Time taken to install and/or take over the system will depend on the size of the system and accessibility of wiring. After the system has been installed or taken over, our technician will test the complete system to make sure all the parts of the system are functioning correctly and the system is able to send signals to the monitoring station.
You will be able to use your system immediately after installation and/or monitoring takeover of your existing alarm system.

What other devices can be monitored by my alarm and is there any extra monitoring charges?

Following are some of the common devices that can be installed and monitored. We do not charge extra for monitoring these devices:

Smoke Detectors and Heat Sensors
Carbon Monoxide detectors
Panic buttons
High or Low Temperature Sensors
Wireless key remotes
Glass break detectors
Medical alert for the elderly

How often should I test my alarm system?

It is recommended that you test your alarm system weekly. You should activate and test your alarm system including all window sensors, door contacts and smoke detector to ensure that each component is functioning properly. Please refer to the back of your ID Card for the instructions on how to test your system.

Can I activate the alarm system when I am at home alone or someone is home and others are out?

Yes, arming your system in "STAY MODE" or bypassing the motion detectors, disarms the interior motion detector(s) and allows you the freedom of moving around while keeping the perimeter of your premises armed, this is especially important if you have younger kids and/or older persons on the premises.

Can I use a VOIP phone line to connect my alarm panel?

High-Tech Electronics does not advise customers to use VOIP phone lines as they may not be compatible or do not provide reliability for alarm communication. If you must use VOIP phone line please talk to us first.
We also suggest the use of a GSM cellular back up system to complement your VOIP phone line.

How and when do I pay for my alarm monitoring service?

You pay us once per year in advance by cheque or cash.

When I go on vacation or travel, what should I do?

Simply notify us of your departure and return dates and make sure your key holders list is up to date.
Before you leave, make sure you have properly locked all your doors and windows, turned off all your appliances and activated your alarm system.
